City Dragons support mental health at Clash for Construction

The City Dragons Dragon traded paddles for plates last night, volunteering at the Clash for Construction charity boxing event to support MATES in Construction, an organisation dedicated to mental health and wellbeing in the construction industry.
A crew of 26 volunteers helped plate up and serve meals and drinks to hundreds of guests at the sold-out event, cheering on members of the construction community who stepped into the ring after months of training, all to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention.

“Teamwork and community are at the heart of what we do,” said Andrew Buxton, Chair of City Dragons Tāmaki Makaurau. “Supporting MATES in Construction reflects the values we live by as a club; looking out for each other, lifting others up, and building strong connections, both on and off the water.”
City Dragons are a growing Auckland dragon boat team with a strong club culture built on dedication, camaraderie, and resilience. Members come from diverse backgrounds, united by their love of the sport and commitment to each other and the community.
As a self-funded team, City Dragons rely on member contributions and the support of partners to compete, train, and continue making a positive impact in Auckland. The club is currently welcoming sponsorship partners for the 2025/26 season, offering the chance to be part of a values-driven team that represents teamwork, wellbeing, and community on and off the water.
