It's the winter season now, so the competitative season will start up again in October 2026. 

You may see a few dragon boats on the water at Westhaven, but these sessions are for experience paddlers. There will be some Give it a Go sessions happening over the winter months, and the Auckland Dragon Boat Association is looking at putting on some regular beginner sessions later this winter, so if you're keen to join us, still get in touch! 

Who we are

We are City Dragons – Tāmaki Makaurau. In 2025, we made it official and became an Incorporated Society under the name City Dragons Aotearoa (50246606). Basically… we got serious about having fun for a long time to come. We are a vibrant, community-focused dragon boat club based in Auckland, bringing together beginners and experienced paddlers to enjoy the excitment of being on the water while developing teamwork, fitness, and racing skills - and laugh with each other along the way.

Our philosophy

We value a balance of fun, friendship, fitness, and competition. Our members paddle hard, encourage each other, get cheeky, and celebrate achievements together. Whether you want a social outlet, fitness challenge, or to compete in regattas, you’ll find your place here.

Our racing side
City Dragons competes at Auckland regattas and major events across New Zealand. We're also keen to compete overseas! We train to improve together while keeping it enjoyable; pushing ourselves, improving as a crew, and celebrating each milestone together.
