City Dragons – Tāmaki Makaurau Impress at Auckland Regional Dragon Boat Championships
Auckland, NZ – The City Dragons – Tāmaki Makaurau proved their mettle at the 2025 Auckland Regional Dragon Boat Championships, hosted by the Auckland Dragon Boat Association, winning two golds and a silver in the minor finals.
This season, the Auckland-based crew has grown in skill, strength, and teamwork, welcoming new paddlers who quickly became part of the City Dragons whānau. With over half the crew new to dragon boating, the team demonstrated remarkable progress, resilience, and cohesion, showing that dragon boating is about more than racing, it’s about connection, fun, and shared achievements.
“Every paddler contributed to our success,” said the coaching team. “We laughed, pushed past limits, supported each other, and brought our motto, ‘Work Hard, Play Hard,’ to life. To achieve multiple podium finishes, especially with so many new paddlers, is an incredible accomplishment for our crew.”
City Dragons train twice weekly at Westhaven Marina on the Waitematā Harbour, combining competitive racing with fitness, social paddling, and team-building. The club welcomes paddlers of all abilities, offering a supportive environment to develop skills while having fun on the water.
The Auckland Regional Dragon Boat Championships tested every team’s preparation, endurance, and coordination. City Dragons’ podium finishes underline the team’s commitment, training, and growing reputation in Auckland dragon boating and community water sports.
